Housing

Minneapolis rent has been going up for a long time, and at the same time we have had a growth in new apartments. However due to high rent prices, a lot of Minneapolitan are struggling.

In the year 2014, rent was around $1,368, in 2021 rent is around $1,500 for one bedroom according to Zillow.com

Homeless is another issue that has increased in Minneapolis due to number of reasons. As we move forward how do we address these challenges of affordability.

    • Introduce modifications in zoning laws, for developers to build higher and bigger spaces.
    • Making homeless a public health issue
    • Increasing permanent housing to homeless, rather than old model of temporary housing, night shelter or transitional housing.
    • Creating early intervention and studies in homelessness, on how we can eradicate homelessness in Minneapolis.
    • Designing effective crisis response system that help homelessness in exiting.
    • Having a well-coordinated approach to end homelessness with all the programs and services with other government agency.
